Advocating for Library Ebook Access in New York State

Banner image with that has the hashtag "eBooksForAll" in bold. Underneath are the words "ALA American Library Association," written in black. The writing all appears over a solid red background.

While library digital collections are growing, they have been hampered by publisher restrictions which severely limit the terms and availability of many ebook titles. In New York state, S2890B/A5837B would require that publishers who offer electronic books to the private market, also extend licenses to libraries within the State, without discrimination. Contracts would stipulate “reasonable terms” that would allow libraries across the state, and their patrons, to have equitable access to the content they seek.
